Krystal Benavides founded her business, KB Financial, as an independent financial advisory firm with access to hundreds of products from dozens of financial institutions.

After helping literally thousands of clients during her 20 years of experience spent in the banking, insurance, and financial services industries working for multi-billion-dollar, brand-name firms like New York Life, AAA, Wells Fargo, Union Bank and many others, she feels she has found her niche now as an entrepreneur in the independent space.

With her own firm, Krystal deliberately moved away from the need to make shareholders money, and is completely dedicated to answering only to clients and their financial needs.

Early in her career, Krystal honed in on the fact that the strategies that elite families and business owners most want are the ones that help them preserve wealth, mitigate taxes, generate reliable retire income, and pass on a tax-advantaged generational legacy. As a result, that is what she primarily focuses on today as a licensed professional.

An entrepreneur since 2019, Krystal’s well-rounded background and diverse experience in corporate banking, mortgage lending, insurance, and holistic financial planning allows her to understand the full spectrum of her clients’ financial needs, enabling her to provide personalized, tailored solutions for business owners and high-net worth families that help them protect their assets and secure their futures.

”What I like best about being independent rather than captive at a huge firm is that I can provide the same level of brand-name financial products and services to my clients at a much more competitive cost."

— Krystal Benavides

Krystal feels the financial services industry is a life path that continues to draw her in. “In addition to my time spent at major financial institutions, I feel my chosen career was heavily influenced by my beloved auntie who worked at a very large mortgage lending firm. I remember spending time with her as a teenager, especially the days when school was closed and she brought me to work with her. I loved the office ‘jobs’ she gave me, like sorting through files, and organizing all the papers and supplies. I was very interested in money and making money, and was literally embedded in the financial services world from childhood,” she says. “I’ve always understood math, accounting, and economics; those subjects have always made sense to me.”

Krystal is licensed in 13 states, but can work with clients all over the country. She focuses primarily on Western states so that she can easily travel to see clients when needed in addition to meeting with them online. She is committed to delivering personalized, trustworthy advice with professionalism and attention to detail. Krystal is most proud of her ability to build lasting relationships with business owners and their families, and her mission is to be a valued resource for clients seeking financial protection and long-term stability. She often teams up with clients’ CPAs and estate attorneys to build advanced plans.

Born and raised in Southern California, Krystal returned to the area to be close to family and friends after her “soul dog” passed away, a rescued husky. Her current “fur baby” is another rescue, named Frida, after Frida Kahlo who was considered a bit mad in her time. “My Frida’s character has evolved to match the artist’s since I adopted her as a sweet little puppy,” Krystal says.

An avid international traveler, Krystal estimates she has visited at least 10 countries. She has also been involved as a volunteer and board member for several nonprofits. However, she has been focused on rebuilding her health and her life since she almost died in 2017 in the emergency room because of an undiagnosed and rare heart condition. Physical, emotional, and spiritual health and wellness are a huge emphasis for her now, especially since the pandemic, which was made difficult because of her preexisting heart condition.

“All of the aspects of my life have come into focus in the last decade. Something my best friends understand about me is that I would never care about a commission or anything financial over doing what is absolutely right by another person. I have a bleeding heart and care about other people more than anything else in the world,” she says. “Coming that close to death makes this even more true about me now than ever.”
